Chest Drainage as a Therapeutic Intervention: Getting Back to Basics

After completing this continuing education activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the anatomy and physiology of the thorax and the role of respiration.
  2. Describe the thoracic pathologies which may warrant the clinical need for chest drainage or evacuation to help re-establish normal intrathoracic pressure.
  3. Explain the differences among chest drainage systems while comparing wet systems with dry systems.
  4. Discuss best practices and special considerations with chest drainage systems.
  5. Review complications and troubleshooting associated with chest drainage systems.

Maximum Credits: 2 Contact Hours

California Board of Registered Nursing and The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) have approved this program for 2 contact hours.

Essential Skills and Knowledge for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

After completing this continuing education activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the underlining mechanisms of coronary artery disease (CAD) and discuss the evolution of Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).
  2. Understand the preoperative patient considerations for CABG.
  3. Understand the importance of instruments and devices used during CABG and postoperative CABG care.
  4. Explain the differentiation between various CABG procedures and graft harvesting methods.
  5. Identify postoperative CABG management and identify common complications for post CABG.

Maximum Credits: 2 Contact Hours

California Board of Registered Nursing and The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) have approved this program for 2 contact hours.
