Antithrombogenic Protection

When it comes to fighting vessel thrombosis, fibrin sheath and catheter occlusion, there's a better option available to you. One that actually helps reduce the occurrence of these complications that could impact a patient's therapy. Compared to unprotected catheters, the ARROW® JACC with Chlorag+ard® Technology provides antithrombogenic protection on internal and external catheter surfaces. This is a direct result of the chlorhexidine eluting slowly over time.

Chlorag+ard® Technology reduces thrombus accumulation on catheter surfaces due to thrombin inhibition by chlorhexidine. Inhibition of thrombin does not allow the final step of the coagulation pathway—the conversion of soluble fibrinogen to fibrin clot. Chlorag+ard® Technology provides antithrombogenic protection as demonstrated by:

  • 61% reduction of thrombus accumulation on catheter surfaces after 30 days2
  • 92% reduction of thrombus accumulation on catheter surfaces after 30 days, when challenged with infection2
  • Reduced intraluminal thrombotic occlusion as evidenced by 51% less pressure to clear thrombus3

In an in vivo intravascular model, three different catheters were challenged with Staphylococcus aureus. Results:

Unprotected Central Line (Control Catheter 1: 7 Days)

Highly infected tissue and significant thrombus formation


Unprotected Central Line (Control Catheter 2: 31 Days)

Infection present in tissue with significant thrombus formation


Central Line with Chlorag+ard® Technology: 31 Days

No evidence of infection and only minimal thrombus formatio
