NRFit® Connector

Teleflex has adopted ISO 80369-6 standard to support efforts to improve patient safety in neuraxial settings. The NRFit® connector is designed to reduce the possibility of misconnection between devices that are not intended to connect.

What is the NRFit® connector?
To improve patient safety, medical device tubing connectors are changing to meet international design standards. ISO 80369-6 establishes a new standard for Luer-type connectors used for neuraxial applications and affects any component in a system designed to deliver medication for a neuraxial application.

What is the difference between a standard Luer connector and an NRFit® connector?
The main difference is the taper and diameter of the connector. An NRFit® connector will not connect to standard Luer equipment, and vice versa. While this is not a mandated change, Teleflex feels strongly that a visual difference between Luer and NRFit® components is crucial for patient safety when there are multiples of the same components in a tray. To facilitate the differentiation between a NRFit® connector and a Luer connector, the NRFit® connector will be yellow. See Comparative Photos tab above.

What products will be impacted by the NRFit® connector?
Any medical device which interacts with the neuraxial space may be impacted.

Why is adoption of the NRFit® connector not a mandatory measure? The ISO 80369-6 standard is a guideline; it is up to local, state, and national governing bodies to require and regulate compliance. The State of California has mandated use of the NRFit® connector for all epidural applications.

What Arrow® products will be available with the NRFit® connector?
The Arrow® FlexTip Plus® Epidural Catheter is available with the NRFit® connector. For product information, see Catheters and Accessories with NRFit® Connectors tab above.

How can I order Arrow® Epidural Catheter Kits with the NRFit® connector?
For more information or to place an order, contact Teleflex Customer Service at cs@teleflex, or your local Teleflex sales representative. More information on the NRFit® connector is also available at GEDSA.org.
